![]() ![]() Portrayed this go-round by the ever-endearing Kurt Russell, "Tombstone" sees the infamous marshal joining forces with his brothers (Sam Elliott and Bill Paxton) to pursue a quiet (and fortune-filled) life in the booming mining town of Tombstone. Steel yourself for adaptations of the life, times, and many attempted retirements of the gunslinger Wyatt Earp, plenty of Kevin Costner, and more genre mishmashes than you can shake a bullwhip at. Sure, we're ranking these amazing films from "worst" to "best," but the "worst" movies here are still incredible rides that definitely deserve a watch. So giddy up and read on for our look at the most iconic Westerns of the 1990s. And a good handful of them are as iconic, memorable, and beloved as any Golden Age John Wayne swagger or neo-noir-tinged Anthony Mann period piece. But Westerns not only permeated the '90s, they enjoyed a full-blown revival. Sure, it may have assumed more of a self-conscious posture, adapting over time to call its own faults, sins, and bugbears into question. Indeed, while the heroics and uncritical Americana of the genre's early days are no more, the Western never really left. If you are going to get one ingenious puzzle game this year, this is it.But what of the 1990s? Well, if you're a Western appreciator, you'll be keenly aware that the genre did not, in fact, ride into the sunset before the dawn of the new millennia. As the "Version 3.0" in the name suggests, it is not a revolutionary sequel but a great revamp of the original, but it succeeds on all levels. The culmination of the incredible (pardon the pun) Incredible Machine series combines the ingenious puzzles of its predecessors with the wacky, animated parts from Sid & Al's Incredible Toons (such as Mel the hapless human) to great effect, presented with crisp SVGA graphics, excellent on-line help, and a versatile puzzle designer. So enjoy the game and I hope it keeps you guessing what the heck goes on next! The game runs smoothly and even comes with background music. The graphics are surprisingly good for a game of this age. It's a great game if you're looking for a challenge and kids as well as older adults will get a kick out of it. Not only does this game have puzzle play, you can also build your own puzzles and go head to head with someone else to compete to see who solves the puzzle faster. You also only get a select number of hints, and if you can't figure out the puzzle from those hints, then you'll really be stumped for that puzzle! But don't worry, if you can't figure it out, just to the menu and click on another puzzle. Don't be fooled by the bright colors and child appeal, these puzzles will get you thinking, and they advance from beginner level to advanced. Each game has a goal that you have to fulfill, for instance, "get all the balls in the basket." And also, don't think you can bypass the tutorial to get to the harder puzzles, the tutorial appears to be a must.Īfter you've completed the tutorial, then you go onto the harder puzzles. In this tutorial, you are introduced to everything that is used in the game, from lasers which set off electrical appliances to anti-gravity force fields that cause balls to float and balloons to sink. If you want to go into puzzle play, you begin by going through a rather long tutorial. Everyone's seen cartoons in which you pull a string and it sets off a chain of events: pull a string, turns on a light, light bulbs boils water. The Incredible Machine is a very classic inventive puzzle game. These can either be for fun, or you can set it so that the person playing has to fill in the missing parts, just like in the campaign. The game also comes with an editor to let you design your own unique machines from scratch. The game features many wacky machine parts, including cats, super balls, lava lamps, flashlights, can openers, monkeys on treadmills, and many more wacky parts to get your machine working. The only problem is, there are parts missing, and it is your job to figure out where to put what in order to get the machine to work. Each level of the game contains a machine designed to do a specific task. This game involves puzzle solving, while creating wacky machines. ![]()
